China head coach Li Tie says farewell to players and staff ahead of likely sacking: report
- Li Xiaopeng, the manager of Chinese Super League club Wuhan FC, is being tipped as a potential replacement
- Former Everton star Li Tie had been under increasing pressure following poor start to China’s World Cup qualifying campaign

Li Tie said farewell to his players and staff at the end of their 14-day quarantine period on Thursday, and is set to be replaced as manager of the China national team by Li Xiaopeng, according to reports.
Chinese media had recently hinted at an imminent shake-up of the team’s management, following several poor performances in their Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The team returned last month from the United Arab Emirates, where they drew 1-1 with Oman and Australia, leaving them in fifth place in group A of AFC third round qualification, with five points from six matches played and only one win.
According to the Beijing Youth Daily, the Chinese team held a farewell party for their manager late on Wednesday, all but confirming his departure.
The same report suggested the Chinese Football Association will hold off from commenting on the change until a replacement is confirmed.
