Naturalised Aloisio confirms exit from Guangzhou FC, but says he will continue to represent Chinese national team

  • Aloisio is the latest Brazilian to depart the financially strained Guangzhou FC
  • The Brazilian says he would continue to represent the Chinese national team should the opportunity arise

After weeks of speculation, Aloisio has confirmed his departure from Guangzhou FC. The 33-year-old Brazilian, also known as Luo Guofu, is the latest in a string of high-profile imports to leave the embattled Guangzhou FC.

The naturalised Chinese footballer confirmed his exit on Chinese social media platform Weibo, saying it was a great honour to wear the Guangzhou FC jersey.

His move means all four naturalised Chinese footballers – Elkeson, Alan Carvalho and Ricardo Goulart being the others – have left the club and returned to their native Brazil. While Aloisio is out of the Chinese Super League, he said he would continue to represent the Chinese national team should the opportunity arise.

“Every journey has an end, and today our end is here,” Aloisio said. “I am grateful to the Guangzhou team for giving me the opportunity to be selected for the national team. This is something that makes me very happy. In the days to come, I will continue to work hard to put on the red jersey of the national team.”

This is undoubtedly bad news for the Chinese team led by new coach Li Xiaopeng. China are fifth in Group B of the AFC Asian Qualifiers and are scheduled to face Japan on January 27 before taking on Vietnam five days later.

Aloisio, who renounced his Brazilian citizenship and gained Chinese nationality in 2020, left the door open for a return to China.

“Thanks to the Chinese fans who have supported me all these years. I am sure that we will be able to meet again in the national team and the Chinese Super League soon.”
