China are chasing their first title in 16 years and expect nothing less than victory when they face Vietnam in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup quarter-finals, according to head coach Shui Qingxia.
China have won the AFC Women’s Asian Cup title a record eight times, the last being 2006, but a refreshed and revamped Steel Roses are determined to end the drought.
China will take to the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday in a comfortable place, having defeated Taiwan 4-0 in their opening match before thrashing Iran 7-0. Standing in their way of what is almost a guaranteed World Cup qualification are Vietnam, a side equally hungry for victory having never won the title before.
Victory would take the Southeast Asian side into the Fifa Women’s World Cup for the first time. China however has defeated Vietnam in all previous 10 encounters.

“Of course it has been a good journey for us in this tournament,” Shui said. “Our team is in the right frame of mind heading into the quarter-finals.
