Kitchee tightened their grip on the BOC Hong Kong Premier League title after cruising to a 2-0 victory over an Eastern side depleted by injuries and suspensions at Mong Kok Stadium on Saturday.

Prolific striker Dejan Damjanovic scored in the 26th and 57th minutes in front of a crowd of around 1,800 fans, taking his goal tally to 25 this season, with 17 in the league.

But both goals were gifted to him by the Eastern defence, who made schoolboy errors inside the box that allowed Damjanovic to pounce from close range.

The goals put Kitchee in cruise control, and with four matches left they are similarly in the drivers’ seat to retain the championship, leading second-placed Lee Man – who play RCFC on Sunday – by six points.

Even Eastern head coach Roberto Losada said after the defeat that it would be a “disaster” if Kitchee did not win the league title.

But his Kitchee counterpart Chu Chi-kwong remained cautious, saying they will have to take it match by match until they are crowned champions.
