Gordon McQueen’s fellow former Seiko star Derek Currie has paid tribute to the ex-Manchester United player, who died at 70 on this week after his battle with dementia.
McQueen, whose 16-year playing career during the 1970s and 80s included spells at St Mirren, Leeds and Manchester United and Hong Kong champions Seiko, was diagnosed with vascular dementia in early 2021.
And approaching the end of his career, he arrived in the city at the invitation of former Hong Kong champions Seiko for the 1985-86 season in the old First Division.
McQueen lived in Hong Lok Yuen in Tai Po during his time in Hong Kong and often crossed paths with Currie – but they first met in their native Scotland.

“Gordon was playing with St Mirren, he was still a young fella at the time, 18 years old, very tall for his age. And I remember getting the ball on the right wing and the big fella came across towards me.
