Fifa Women’s World Cup: Philippines coaches will not renew contracts after guiding team to historic debut
- Head coach Alen Stajcic and assistant Nahuel Arrarte to leave positions after team
- Stajcic proud of ‘beating New Zealand on home soil and scoring our first World Cup goal.’

Philippines coach Alen Stajcic will not renew his contract after his side’s exit from the Women’s World Cup, the Philippine Football Federation said on Tuesday.
Making a historic first appearance, the newcomers lost to Switzerland in their opener but stunned co-hosts New Zealand 1-0 for their first win of the tournament in only their second match.
But their campaign ended on a disappointing note, with a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of 1995 champions Norway on Sunday. A result that meant they failed to get out of Group A.
The federation said the Australian coach was set to “explore other options” after he was recently linked with the vacant role with Perth Glory’s A-League men’s side.
The Philippine federation praised Stajcic for “changing the landscape of Philippine football forever”

“Beating New Zealand on home soil and scoring our first World Cup goal and getting our first win was the things that dreams are made of,” Stajcic said in a statement.
