AFC Asian Cup tickets go on sale, with organisers promising ‘grandest ever showpiece’ in Qatar, prices starting at HK$42

  • Fans can get seats for any of the 51 matches that are going to be taking place in January and February
  • Hong Kong, who are in Group C, open their tournament against the United Arab Emirates at Khalifa International Stadium on January 14th

Tickets have gone on sale for next year’s AFC Asian Cup in Qatar, and Hong Kong fans can get seats to watch their side in the tournament for the first time in almost 60 years from just HK$42.

Organisers opened online sales on Monday, with spectators able to book spots at the-AFC.com for any of the 51 matches that will take place between January 12th’s opening encounter involving the hosts and Lebanon, and the final on February 10th.

Both games will be played at Lusail Stadium, the 88,000-set venue that hosted last year’s dramatic World Cup final between Argentina and France.

Hong Kong, who were drawn in Group C, open their tournament against the United Arab Emirates at Khalifa International Stadium two days later. Jorn Andersen’s side then take on Iran on Friday 19th at the same venue, before ending the group stage against Palestine on January 23rd at Al Janoub Stadium.

Datuk Seri Windsor John, the Asian Football Confederation’s general secretary, said the launch of ticket sales represented “a significant milestone as strive to engage more fans than ever before”.

Officials expected “tremendous interest” with the compact nature of Qatar allowing fans to attend multiple games a day if they wanted to do so.

According to organisers, spectators can book up to six tickets per match, and these would be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Qatar will host the tournament for a historic third time, having hosted it twice before in 1988 and 2011. The reigning Asian champions have been drawn into Group A alongside China PR, Tajikistan and Lebanon.
