Chelsea came from behind to beat West Ham 2-1 in a pulsating London derby in the Premier League on Monday, making it a miserable return to Stamford Bridge for new Hammers boss Graham Potter.

Potter was fired in April 2023 after less than seven months in charge of the Blues, and had to watch as a lucky deflection cost his side at least a point.

Chelsea’s second win in eight games lifted them into fourth place in the table, two points above Manchester City and four behind third-placed Nottingham Forest. West Ham remained 15th.

Jarrod Bowen’s absence has been notable for West Ham, with the England forward missing the past six games with a foot injury, but he made his presence felt three minutes before half-time when he gave the visitors the lead.

Levi Colwill’s back pass from the touchline was woefully short, and Bowen steadied himself before steering a left-foot shot into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

But Chelsea hit back just as West Ham looked to be taking control. Enzo Fernandez’s shot was blocked on the line but the rebound fell kindly for substitute Pedro Neto to lash in.
