After injuries and ‘insult’, Hong Kong’s Jordan Lam to make most of his second chance
Resurgent left-back could win second international cap in India next week after a series of injuries checked his early-career progress

Written off in some quarters following his second serious knee injury at the age of 22, and ignored by the last Hong Kong manager, Jordan Lam Lok-kan is back in the international fold and targeting his second cap in India next week.
Kitchee left-back Lam, who spent time with English club Bury a decade ago, pressed his selection claims when he lashed home the penalty that sealed the city team’s Chinese New Year Cup shoot-out victory over FC Seoul last month.
Having underlined his reputation as a serious prospect with a stunning strike in the 2019 Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup, Lam damaged his left ACL the following year and again in 2022.
“It was very difficult. The most important thing for me was the family support I had, and I just wanted to get back on the field to play for them,” said Lam, whose younger brother, Jerry, is on loan with BC Rangers from Tai Po.
“Some people thought I might never play again, or that I’d come back but then retire. Every game I play now, my family comes to watch. I feel very grateful.”
At the age of 17, Lam and current Hong Kong goalkeeper Tse Ka-wing spent a period on trial with then League One club Bury.
