China under-16 women’s team beat hosts France for second win in invitational event

Chinese have two wins from two matches in six-team Montaigu Cup, and are second in standings behind Japan, who are also unbeaten

China’s under-16 women’s team moved into second place at the Montaigu Football World Cup after a 2-1 victory over hosts France on Wednesday, their second consecutive win in the six-team tournament.

Zhou Jintong and He Fengqingyang both scored as the visitors triumphed at the Stade Maxime Bossis.

China took the lead in the 15th minute when Zhou curled a free kick into the top corner.

They doubled their advantage in the 45th minute after He controlled a long pass in the box and scored with a shot on the turn.

France narrowed the gap in the 73rd minute when Maelys Leduc converted a penalty.

There was a bit of controversy after the final whistle, with the French players protesting to the referee and then walking off the pitch refusing to shake the hands of their Chinese opponents.
