Fan Zhendong set for commentating debut during Fifa World Cup final on Chinese site
Football pundit Zhan Jun reveals that table tennis legend, a well-known football fan, will be co-commentator on music platform Migu on Monday
Table tennis superstar Fan Zhendong is expected to make his debut as a Fifa World Cup commentator after news emerged online that the Olympic champion would make a guest appearance during the final on Monday.
On Sunday night, Chinese football commentator Zhan Jun revealed that he and fellow pundit Zhang Lu would be providing commentary on the World Cup final on Chinese music platform Migu alongside Fan and professional footballer Wu Lei.
Zhan had since deleted the post and said specific arrangements were still pending an official announcement from the platform.
Still, the internet exploded over the news, which became a trending topic on Weibo overnight, with fans even calling Fan’s presence the “biggest highlight” of the tournament.
“The World Cup has been incredibly exciting, but I haven’t watched a single match. But with my Fan Zhendong commentating, I have to stay up all night to watch,” said a commentator.
Another commentator said: “It’s going to be spectacular. I believe Fan will provide us with a fantastic viewing experience; I am in!”
