Former Hong Kong Golf Club pro Iain Roberts receives top PGA award
Englishman will receive PGA Master Professional status at British Open

Former Hong Kong Golf Club professional Iain Roberts has received one of the sports’ top accolades after being named a PGA Master Professional.
Out of more than 7,000 PGA members worldwide, there are only 38 Master Professionals, Robert joining an elite group that includes world famous coaches David Leadbetter, Peter Cowan and Bob Torrance.
The Professional Golfers’ Association bestows the honour to those who have “demonstrated a significant contribution to the development of golf over many years”.
Roberts, 56, will be presented with his award at next month’s British Open at St Andrews.
“It’s a great honour, it doesn’t seem as though I’ve been working in golf as long as I have but it’s been a whirlwind career that has gone so fast,” he said.
Roberts played on te European Tour for one season before becoming head pro at Muswell Hill Golf Club in London. He became just the third head pro in the history of Hong Kong Golf Club and for the past five years has been group executive director at the sprawling Mission Hills golf complex in Shenzhen.
