Miguel Angel Jimenez adds to strong Hong Kong Open field as he goes for fifth Fanling title
The 53-year-old will look to create more history at Hong Kong Golf Club starting on November 23
Hong Kong Open history maker Miguel Angel Jimenez has confirmed he will take part at Fanling later this month as he chases a fifth title at the tournament.
The 53-year-old’s thrilling play-off win in December 2013 extended his own record as the European Tour’s oldest winner before he added the 21st title of his career at the Open de Espana later that year.
And Jimenez will be back on November 23 to kick off the 2018 European Tour season.
“The Hong Kong Golf Club is a place where I have enjoyed great success, and I love everything about the tournament,” said the Spaniard, who also won the Hong Kong Open in 2004, 2007 and 2012.
“It’s a great golf course where you have to control the ball very well, it’s not a matter of distance, and that makes for an enjoyable week.”
Jimenez is the only player to have won the Hong Kong Open title on multiple occasions since it became part of the European Tour International Schedule in 2002, with the inaugural addition also won by the Spaniard.
“As usual, there is a great field gathering in Hong Kong, and I can’t wait to return again next season to go for title number five,” he added.
Masters champion Sergio Garcia will line up alongside his compatriot, along with Olympic champion Justin Rose – who is fresh off back-to-back wins in Shanghai and Turkey.
Also featuring are Race to Dubai leader Tommy Fleetwood and world number 20 Rafa Cabrera Bello, while Chinese prodigy Li Haotong and his fellow young guns Paul Dunne and Matthew Fitzpatrick will also tee off.
