Hong Kong Open: teenager Alexander Yang’s weekend just got better but homework still on the cards
- Teenage debutant leads the way for local players after yet another impressive outing in Fanling
- The 17-year-old is more worried about homework than being in the Hong Kong spotlight

There is just no stopping Hong Kong’s teenage sensation Alexander Yang, who put in another memorable performance in round three of the Hong Kong Open on Saturday.
The 17-year-old amateur finished the day three-under-par and five-under for the tournament to go joint-19th in the standings – just two strokes away from world top 20-ranked Tony Finau and Shane Lowry.
“I do have some homework that I have to do because I didn’t get too much done yesterday – but that’s all part of playing golf while in school,” said Yang, the tournament’s youngest competitor. “I don’t have school on Monday so that’s an extra day to do more homework, too.”
When asked why he could not simply ask his teacher for an extension under the premise that he is five-under-par at his first big professional golf tournament, Yang had the perfect response.
