Chinese golfer Lin Xiyu leads HSBC Women’s World Championship as first LPGA Tour victory beckons
- The 25-year-old Guangzhou native is one stroke ahead of Green and Park ahead of final round
- ‘I didn’t really expect to play that well,’ said Lin, who has yet to break the top five in a Tour event
China’s Lin Xiyu emerged as leader of the pack going into the final round of the HSBC Women’s World Championship on Saturday, putting her in contention to earn her first LPGA Tour win.
The 25-year-old Guangzhou native held on to a narrow one-shot lead after shooting a five-under-par 67 at Sentosa Golf Club. At 14-under overall, the China junior golf programme graduate is aiming for her biggest career achievement yet should she win on Sunday.
“I’m going to try my best to enjoy every minute of it, and hopefully I learn something, and I bring something out of it,” Lin said in an official press release.
Lin is a seven-time China LPGA Tour winner since making her debut in 2011. After a stint in the European Tour, she qualified for the LPGA Tour in 2014 and is searching to break her personal Tour record of a top-five finish.
A birdie finish in round three in Singapore boosted her confidence as fans await a potential dream storyline of a former sponsor invitational to the tournament lifting the very same championship.
“Well, I wasn‘t really paying attention to the leaderboard because to me, the front nine was a little sketchy. I made two three-putts, some weird mistakes and tend to leave some birdie putts short,” Lin said.
