China’s Lily Muni He finished her opening round at the Women’s British Open just two-over par but tied for 90th position, in a field led by world No 1 Nelly Korda.

The US Olympic champion finished five under par along with Sweden’s Madeline Sagstrom and Kim Sei-young of South Korea after 18 holes at a forgiving Carnoustie course.

US Open champion Yuka Saso of the Philippines is one shot off the lead alongside Scotland’s Louise Duncan, Andrea Lee of the US and England’s Georgia Hall.

Duncan is the highest-ranked amateur after the opening round of the AIG Women’s Open, as the tournament is also known.

ANA Inspiration winner Patty Tavatanakit is one-under for a share of 22nd, while US amateur Rose Zhang carded even-par for a share of 41st.

The second round sees Hall and Duncan start at 7.14am (2.14pm Hong Kong time) with joint leader Kim and reigning champ Sophia Popov of Germany hitting the course 11 minutes later.
