British Open: China’s Lily Muni He misses cut as Nelly Korda gets ‘punch of reality’

A five over par second round saw Lily Muni He miss the cut at the Women’s British Open and end Chinese interest in the final major of the year as the leader board became more congested at the halfway stage at Carnoustie.

Joining the seven-over He in missing the cut were US amateur Rose Zhang and Taiwan’s Cheng Ssu-chia who were both at two-over par after two rounds. Reigning champion Sophia Popov of Germany missed the cut at three over.

At the halfway stage Mina Harigae of the US and England’s Georgia Hall have a share of the lead at seven under par. Hariage shot five under in her second round while 2018 British Open champion Hall carded a three-under.

South Korea’s Kim Sei-young and Lizette Salas of the US a shot back from the leaders at six under par at the tournament, which is also known as the AIG Women’s Open.

Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn and Wichanee Meechai are tied for fifth along with US Open champion Yuka Saso of the Philippines.

Also at five-under par are Nanna Koerstz Madsen of Denmark, Ireland’s Leona Maguire, and the US pair of Yealimi Noh and Lexi Thompson.
