Coming off the back of an inspired second half of 2021, Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana knows two good weeks in Singapore could take him to the top of the Asian Tour’s order of merit.

Seventh in the money list ahead of the Tour’s closing tournaments of its 2020-21 season - this week’s Singapore International and next week’s SMBC Singapore Open - Sandom finished last year with strong showings in the Blue Canyon Phuket Championship, where he was tied for second, and in last month’s Laguna Phuket Championship where he was joint fifth.

Couple that with five wins on his country’s domestic circuit, including the Thailand Open, and you have a player whose modest manner disguises a confident and fiercely competitive appetite for success.

“During the pandemic I had time to think over what are my weaknesses and what I will have to improve,” he said. “So, I had more time to practise my short game and it has been improved a lot. I just changed my setup a little bit and tried to learn new techniques.

“Also, I have been trying to make my body stronger and change my mindset. So, I feel more confident to play.”

Sadom is already a winner on the Asian Tour, after claiming the Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open in 2019 ‒ having made it through Q-school that year to become the fastest graduate to win on Tour.

And while the top of order in merit is in sight, Sadom said his first goal this week at the Tanah Merah Country Club was just to “make the cut”.

“I will just focus on enjoying the game and not think about the result,” he said. “If I can make it, I will do my best in the last two days and I hope to finish in the top 10 - that would be great.”
