Korn Ferry Tour: wayward Dou left ruing costly bogeys in The Bahamas as he lets victory slip from his grasp

- Dropped shots at 16 and 18 allow Brandon Harkins to claim victory at The Abaco Club

China’s Marty Zecheng Dou was left kicking himself after losing a two-shot lead and then a playoff at the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic on Thursday (Hong Kong time).
The 25-year-old, who led overnight, was two strokes up with three holes to play but bogeyed 16 and 18, allowing Brandon Harkins to draw level. Dou’s final round 3-under 69 left on 18-under for the tournament.
Both players traded pars on the first playoff hole, before Harkins, who shot a final round 68, went on to claim his first Korn Ferry Tour victory with a par after Dou found the penalty area twice to end a disappointing final day The Abaco Club.
“When you get to the point [of winning], two strokes lead with three to play, I’m thinking of just making pars to win it,” Dou said. “Losing is a little different definitely. We are talking about going after a win, we’ve already got one hand on the trophy. It’s pretty tough.”
Dou appeared to be cruising towards the finish line, and was 5-under coming off the 15th green, but he then hooked his drive into the penalty area on 16 for his first bogey of the day and followed that with a wayward fairway wood approach into the penalty area on the closing hole.
