After three years of battling injury, loss of form, and Covid-enforced absences, Motin Yeung is finally starting to feel like himself again and playing like it too.

The Hong Kong golfer secured conditional status on the PGA Tour Canada over the weekend after finishing eighth at a qualifying event at Mission Inn Resort and Club, Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

Yeung finished on 7-under par for his four rounds, and only missed out on full status after losing in a play-off on Saturday for the final spot. Things may have been even better, but the bad weather exacerbated his allergies contributing to a 1-over 73 in his second round.

“The allergies combined with stress meant I had a really horrible night after the first round,” he said. “I wasn’t in the right state of mind. I wasn’t feeling very well because of allergies. But I got better and I would say my golf game feels good overall, so the third and fourth rounds I played a lot better and I am happy with how things have turned out.”

While he narrowly missed out on full status, Yeung still expects to have a busy summer in North America and said he was just “very, very happy” to be back playing again.

“I’ve been having problems with my body a couple years, a wrist issue and some other problems, so it’s nice to finally be feeling good again and be able to just worry about golf and nothing else,” he said.

“Now it’s just about playing and competing. To attain this status means so much to me. I can now play on a tour this summer, and I can finally focus on my golf again.”
