A “pretty excited” Carl Yuan Yechun secured his spot on the PGA Tour next season after finishing in a tie for seventh at the Club Car Championship, and immediately said nothing had changed.

Needing to come in 19th or higher at the Korn Ferry Tour event at The Landings Club in Savannah, Georgia, to secure his card, Yuan’s final round 2-over par 74 on Sunday (US time) left him at 12-under for the tournament, five shots off the winner, T.J. Vogel.

The result took the 25-year-old from Dalian past the 900 points threshold for players to finish inside the top-25 on the regular season rankings. With 15 tournaments still to play, Yuan is No 1 on the list with 941 points.

“I’m pretty excited about it, knowing that I will be on the PGA Tour next year,” Yuan said. “That’s great news for me and I’m looking forward to the rest of season and next year on Tour.”

Yuan is just the third golfer from mainland China to earn a PGA Tour card, after Marty Zecheng Dou and Xinjun Zhang took the same route in 2017.

And, having won his first Korn Ferry event at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open two weeks ago, Yuan said he had no intention of taking it easy for the rest of the year.

“Every week I’ll try and go out and do the best I can,” he said. “I’m not quitting until the scorecard is turned in. I took the same mentality into the last couple of years.
