While the best professionals in the women’s game readied themselves for the second major of the year, their amateur counterparts were in action at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Ladies Golf Team Championship in Singapore, and Japan were taking charge.

Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching of Hong Kong is among those preparing for next week’s major, the US Women’s Open Championship – in her case by playing in the LPGA Match-Play tournament in Las Vegas – but her compatriots in Singapore were already two rounds deep.

And after the South Koreans, and Lee Jihyun individually, set the pace on day one, the Japanese trio showed they had designs on the Queen Sirikit Cup as they soared into a five-shot lead in the team competition on day two.

That was due largely to a round of 64 from Hashimoto Mizuki, who rose to the top of the individual standings, leading by four strokes from Lee.

Hong Kong trio Chloe Chan Cheuk-yee, Arianna Lau and Iris Wang Xin-yi all produced solid displays at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club, keeping themselves in 10th place in the team competition.
