Japan ended a 20-year drought in the Queen Sirikit Cup after claiming the trophy at Singapore’s Laguna National Golf Resort Club on Friday.

Mizuki Hashimoto, Miku Ueta and Ayaka Tezuka secured their country’s first Asia Pacific Amateur Ladies Team Championship title since 2002, gelling superbly despite sweltering conditions on the final day.

Leading by one stroke at the start of play, the Japanese team carded a five-under 139, led by Ueta’s 68 and Tezuka’s 71, with each team’s best two daily scores counted.

That brought their aggregate for the 72 holes to a 20-under 556, giving them a seven-shot win over runners-up New Zealand.
