Asian Tour: Pettit powers his way to top of leaderboard in St Andrews with flawless 62 on day of low scores
- American’s 10-under-par round sends him into final round of International Series event with 1-shot lead
- Pettit fires eight birdies and an eagle at Fairmont St Andrews, finishing one shy of Torrance Course record

Turk Pettit will take a narrow one-shot lead into the final round of the St Andrews Bay Championship after rocketing up the leaderboard with his best day of the year.
The 24-year-old has struggled on the Asian Tour so far this season, making only three cuts in nine starts, with his best finish a tie for 34th at the International Series Vietnam.
But Pettit may have finally turned a corner after winning the Colorado Open last month, and his bogey-free 10-under 62 on Saturday was just a shot shy of the Torrance Course record at Fairmont St Andrews.
Eight birdies and an eagle catapulted him to 17 under for the tournament, with Australian Matt Jones, who fired a 66, in second after Saturday’s third round.
“Hit it in position and made a lot of putts, so it’s easy when you do that, but man, it was a great day, it’s what you work for,” said the American, who turned professional in 2021 after winning the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship.
“I’m finally starting to hit the ball a bit better. I’ve worked really hard on my putting as well, and today it paid off. So, I’ve been working hard, and you know, the Colorado Open was … It’s been about two years since I’ve won a golf tournament, so winning that was a big deal for me.”
