David Puig takes a nine-shot lead into the final round of the International Series Singapore on Sunday, giving himself a chance to finally make a lead count.

The Spaniard’s six-under-par 66 took him to 20 under overall, the lowest 54-hole score of the season on the Asian Tour and the biggest lead at the same stage.

Korean Jae-woong Eom leads the chasing pack after his round of 69 at Tanah Merah Country Club, while Hong Kong’s Taichi Kho also shot three under to move into a tie for fifth at nine under.

Compatriot Matthew Cheung recovered from a blip in the second round to join a large group on three under.

Puig, who turned professional year ago and has yet to miss a cut in his nine starts on the Tour, has held the lead at various stages of Tour and International Series events before, and always come up short.

He led after three rounds in Morocco last year before finishing third, was tied for the lead at the halfway mark in Newcastle in August, and finished fourth, and also let slip opportunities to win in St Andrews, and at last month’s Shinhan Donghae Open.
