Tiger Woods has said he believes the rift in men’s professional golf is going to “heal quickly” following the involvement of US President Donald Trump.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, Tiger Woods and Adam Scott met President Donald Trump and Saudi businessman Yasir Al-Rumayyan on Thursday at the White House to discuss a merger with LIV Golf.
Woods confirmed an initial meeting took place last week that he was unable to attend, adding in public comments on Sunday that he would be present for the next “imminent meeting”, purportedly referencing the gathering on Thursday in Washington.
“I think that things are going to heal quickly,” Woods said. “We’re going to get this game going in the right direction. It’s been heading in the wrong direction for a number of years.
“The fans want all the top players playing together and we’re going to make that happen.”

Alcaraz shock
Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz lost for just the second time this year when 25th-ranked Jiri Lehecka beat him 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open.
Alcaraz’s only other defeat in 2025 was to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open quarter-finals. The 21-year-old Spaniard, ranked No 3, won the Rotterdam Open earlier this month.
“I’ve talked with my team, with my coach, and honestly I don’t know what I could have done better,” Alcaraz said. “Honestly, I don’t know.
“It was kind of a difficult feeling, I guess. I have to give credit to him as well, because when he was down, especially in the third set, he didn’t give up.”
Alcaraz led 4-2 in the third set and had a break point on Lehecka’s serve, but could not finish off the Czech, who won the next three games to advance to the semi-finals.
The 23-year-old Lehecka will next play eighth-seeded Jack Draper, who knocked out Matteo Berrettini 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Injury KO for Wemby

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is expected to miss the rest of the NBA season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.
The Spurs said in a statement that the 21-year-old French player was diagnosed with the blood clot after he returned to San Antonio following last Sunday’s All-Star game in San Francisco.
“Wembanyama is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 regular season,” the Spurs star said. “The team will provide updates as appropriate.”
The announcement brings a premature end to another outstanding campaign by Wembanyama, who earned Rookie of the Year honours last season after being taken first overall in the NBA draft.

Roma overcame FC Porto in the most intriguing tie of the Uefa Europa League play-offs.
A 1-1 draw in Portugal had set up an evenly balanced second leg and, despite going a goal down, they stormed to a 3-1 lead with Paulo Dybala rolling back the years, before conceding an own goal in stoppage time to win 4-3 on aggregate.
It stopped the rot for Italy, which had three sides eliminated during the Uefa Champions League play-offs.
Elsewhere, Real Sociedad and AZ Alkmaar earned their places in the round of 16 and are the potential opponents for either Manchester United or Tottenham.
Ajax survived a huge scare as they trailed 2-0 at home to Union Saint-Gilloise, taking the tie to extra time, before a 93rd-minute penalty put them through.
The most dramatic tie of the evening, however, was in the Arctic Circle as Bodo/Glimt netted twice in stoppage time against FC Twente to seemingly reach the next round – only for the Dutch side to equalise on aggregate.
But the hosts would not lie down and scored two further goals in the 30 minutes added on, sealing their passage through 6-4 on aggregate.
In the Uefa Conference League, Shamrock Rovers could not capitalise on their historic victory away to Molde, as they lost 1-0 at home in the return leg and were beaten on penalties.
India’s Gill downs Bangladesh

In-form Shubman Gill made an unbeaten 101 to anchor India’s chase in a six-wicket win over Bangladesh as the two teams began their Champions Trophy campaigns in Dubai.
Needing a tricky 229 for victory on a seemingly tough pitch, India rode on Gill’s second successive ODI ton to achieve their target with 21 balls to spare.
“Definitely one of my most satisfying innings that I have played and my first century in ICC events,” Gill said after being named man of the match. “Very happy with the way I performed.”
Skipper Rohit Sharma praised his opening partner, saying, “Gill, we know the class that he has, shouldn’t surprise anyone. It was good to see him bat till the end.”
Title favourites India are playing their matches in the 50-over tournament at the Dubai International Stadium after refusing to tour host nation Pakistan over political tensions.
