Asian Tour: Hong Kong’s Jason Hak battles nerves and a rough start in Philippines opener
Jason Hak cards a one-under-par 71 in his first round as a full member of the tour at the Philippine Golf Championship

Jason Hak Shun-yat overcame a rough start to card a one-under-par 71 in his first round as a full member of the Asian Tour, and said just being at the season-opening Philippine Golf Championship was something of a bonus.
The 32-year-old Hongkonger is certainly no stranger to the professional game, but admitted to having to battle nerves as well as a tough Wack Wack Golf and Country Club course on Thursday.
Hak’s 71 left him three shots back of leader Sarut Vongchaisit and in a large group tied for 10th. Compatriots Taichi Kho and Matthew Cheung, with whom he won Asian Games bronze in 2023, both finished the day at one-over.
“I had a shaky start, went bogey-bogey just trying to get the nerves syncing, but it’s great to be out here,” Hak said. “I’m really looking forward to the rest of the year, we’re going to have a great schedule and I’m excited about that.”
Having spent the past several years playing in China, Hak had to go through Q-school in December to earn his card, but after sinking his final putt at the Lake View Resort in Hua Hin, Thailand, he did not think he had done enough.

Ultimately, his five-round total of six-under was good enough for 21st spot in the standings, with the top 35 earning status for the 2026 season.
