Hong Kong golfers struggle as Korean Cho Woo-young wins Philippine Golf Championship

Jason Hak Shun-yat finished 68th, while Taichi Kho and Matthew Cheung failing to make the cut at the first Asian Tour event of the season

Hong Kong golfers had a tournament to forget at the Philippine Golf Championship, an Asian Tour event that was won by South Korean Cho Woo-young on Sunday.

The highest finisher from the city was Jason Hak Shun-yat at 68, with Taichi Kho and Matthew Cheung failing to even make the cut.

The victory at Wack Wack Golf & Country Club in Manila was the first for Cho on the Asian Tour.

The Korean held off the challenge of Thailand’s Pavit Tangkamolprasert to win the tournament by four shots.

Overnight leader Karandeep Kochhar of India dropped down to fourth, with Travis Smyth of Australia finishing third.

Cho scored a final round five-under-par 67, for a four-round total of 11-under par at the first tournament of the Asian Tour season.
