LIV Golf Singapore: Westwood continues comeback, Lee lurks with intent, Rahm ‘confident’
Trio share opening-day lead with Bryson DeChambeau at Serapong Course, where changing winds and fast greens made for a tricky test of golf

Lee Westwood continued his recent resurgence after returning from injury, Jon Rahm channelled the spirit of 2023, and Richard T Lee made the most of his local knowledge as LIV Golf rolled into Singapore on Thursday.
Westwood and his Majesticks GC team have not had the happiest of times over the past two years, but the Englishman showed glimpses of his old self in Hong Kong last week and carded a four-under-par 67 to grab a share of the lead with Rahm, Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau and wild card Lee at Sentosa Golf Club.
It is all the more surprising because Singapore is just the second competitive outing in the past six months for Westwood, who is still recovering from tearing tendons in his wrist.
“Seven weeks ago, I couldn’t hold the putter,” he said. “The specialist was worried that I’d torn the sheath in the wrist and I would need surgery to reconstruct it. To be sitting here, having had a good week last week and then be leading this week, is a very pleasant surprise.”
Westwood, who started his day with a birdie on the par-5 fourth, had been moving along steadily in the middle of the pack after adding a second at the 12.

He jumped into a share of the lead with two more at 17 and 18, courtesy of a tee shot to within three feet at the par-3 17 and a good recovery after finding sand on the par-5 last.
