Chan Chun-hing ended his 12-year mountain bike career with a silver medal at the Asian Games in Incheon today.

The 33-year-old finished the six-lap, 27.6 kilometre course in west Incheon in one hour 43 minutes and 27 seconds, 53 seconds behind winner Wang Zhen of China. Kohei Yamamoto of Japan was third in 1:44:12.

“This is for sure my last Asiad and I am very happy I can still win a medal here despite my age,” said Chan, the gold medal winner in Guangzhou four years ago. “The build-up leading to Incheon has been very tough and now all the hard work and effort has paid off.

“There is nothing to regret though I could not defend my title. The winner from China is very strong and I have done my best in the competition. In fact, even if I did not return with any medal, I would still feel happy.

“Looking back in my career over a decade, I have won two Asian Games medals and this could not have happened with the support of so many people. My sincere thanks to my coaches, support staff and my family as their support kept pushing me to work hard.”
