Outspoken critic of the Hong Kong Triathlon Association (TriHK) Andrew Wright has put his name forward for election to the executive committee at its annual meeting tomorrow.

Trouble-hit triathlon, which is fighting to keep its privileged status as an elite sport at the Hong Kong Sports Institute next April, will elect a new committee after incumbent president Erik Chan Kit-bun retired.

Five positions were vacated but the positions of presidency and treasurer are uncontested, leaving three up for grabs. Wright will vie with six other candidates for these three positions - Chan Chi-ho, Chau Chiu-nam, Lau Chi-chung, Tang King-man, Michael Tse and Kenneth Yip Chun-kit.

Fenella Ng Gar-loc is uncontested for the post of president while Telia Cheung Hong-wai is the sole candidate for treasurer.

"Quite a few people asked me to turn up, so I must have some sort of chance. If not, I will keep trying to change the sport in other positive ways," said Wright.

The former triathlete and now private coach has been a vocal critic of the administration of the governing body and its powerful selection committee that decides which athletes can represent Hong Kong, as well as where they train.
