Robert Grant 'overwhelmed' as he lifts Classic singles title

Scot was a first-round loser last year, but the 54-year-old makes no mistake this time around at the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic

Scotland’s Robert Grant was over the moon after lifting the men’s singles title at the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic yesterday at Craigengower Cricket Club.

Last year, Grant was beaten in the first round of the same competition, but this time around, the 54-year-old went all the way to register one of his finest career wins, defeating Malaysia’s Muhammad Hizlee 10-8, 0-10, 3-1 in the final.

“I’m absolutely overwhelmed to say the least. I am absolutely delighted to have won. The people here have been fantastic,” said the Scot, who won last year’s Classic pair’s title.

Malaysia’s Siti Zalina defeated Sonia Bruce of the Philippines 7-6, 9-9 to win the women’s singles final.
