Da Silva hits his century mark against Rangers
Brazilian scores the only goal as Eastern reach the Premier League summit
Marksman Giovane da Silva scored his 100th goal in Hong Kong on Sunday, lifting Eastern to the top of the table with a slender 1-0 victory over BC Rangers in the BOCG Life Premier League at Kowloon Bay Park.
Despite dominating possession, Eastern struggled to break down a stubborn Rangers defence on the tough artificial turf.
They had to wait until the second half when the Brazilian striker collected the ball from teammate Michel Lugo and launched an angled shot from the left to beat the goalkeeper with only 15 minutes left.
Da Silva celebrated his centennial mark by taking off his jersey to display "100", but that cost him a booking.
"I felt very excited scoring my 100th goal in Hong Kong. This is exceptional," said Da Silva, who first came to Hong Kong in 2007 when he joined Sun Hei. "Thank you for the support I received from my teammates, my club and the fans over these years.
"But most of all, these points have helped Eastern move to the top of table and, hopefully, we can keep up the good work and step by step wait for the good news until the end of the season."
