Marksman Giovane da Silva scored his 100th goal in Hong Kong on Sunday, lifting Eastern to the top of the table with a slender 1-0 victory over BC Rangers in the BOCG Life Premier League at Kowloon Bay Park. Despite dominating possession, Eastern struggled to break down a stubborn Rangers defence on the tough artificial turf. I felt very excited scoring my 100th goal in Hong Kong. This is exceptional Giovane da Silva They had to wait until the second half when the Brazilian striker collected the ball from teammate Michel Lugo and launched an angled shot from the left to beat the goalkeeper with only 15 minutes left. Da Silva celebrated his centennial mark by taking off his jersey to display "100", but that cost him a booking. "I felt very excited scoring my 100th goal in Hong Kong. This is exceptional," said Da Silva, who first came to Hong Kong in 2007 when he joined Sun Hei. "Thank you for the support I received from my teammates, my club and the fans over these years. "But most of all, these points have helped Eastern move to the top of table and, hopefully, we can keep up the good work and step by step wait for the good news until the end of the season." Eastern and Sun Pegasus both have 16 points, but the former have a better head-to-head record after beating Sun Pegasus 3-0 last month. Defending champions Kitchee, who are fourth with 13 points, pose the biggest threat, having three games in hand against the leaders. "There's still a long way to go in the league and anything can happen," said the goalscorer. "Rangers played hard today and gave us a lot of difficulties, but you have to be patient especially playing on the artificial surface where the ball bounces differently from natural grass." The 32-year-old said he would like to play in Hong Kong "as long as possible" as he aims for his 200th goal. Da Silva said the most memorable goal was against Rangers in 2012.
