Hong Kong Asian Games cyclist Jamie Wong retires

Incheon individual time trial bronze medallist wants to return to university to continue her studies.

Hong Kong cyclist Jamie Wong Wan-yiu announced her retirement yesterday. Wong, 28, said she planned to return to university. "I have been considering whether to go on or retire since the [Incheon] Asian Games," she wrote on Facebook.

"I think it's the right time to leave for a new life," added the women's individual time trial star.

Wong was the first local female cyclist to win a World Cup title, in 2008. At last year's Asian Games, she won a bronze medal, as well as a silver in Guangzhou five years ago, where she suffered a crash but still managed a podium finish.
