Hong Kong players are in dominant form at the women's world championship with Ng On-yee ending the 10-year reign of Reanne Evans, who this month narrowly failed to qualify for the main draw of the men's tournament now being held at the Crucible.

Ng beat Evans 4-2 in the semi-finals at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds, bringing an end to one of the most dominant winning streaks in world sport. In another boost for Hong Kong, Ng's teammate Jaique Ip also reached the semi-finals, where she was due to meet England's Emma Bonney.

Evans was aiming to become the first women to reach the world championship for men but was beaten 10-8 by veteran player Ken Doherty in the qualifiers.

The English player won a record 10 world titles between 2005 and 2014. She had a number of chances to play on the men's tour but failed to win any matches in the main draw.

The 24-year-old Ng won the world amateur title in 2009 and 2010 and took gold for Hong Kong in the women's team event at the 2010 Asian Games, where she also earned bronze in the singles.
