Kitchee were crowned Hong Kong champions after a thrilling 3-3 draw with struggling Wofoo Tai Po yesterday. They became the first BOCG Life Hong Kong Premier League winners, earning 36 points from 15 games with one match left. Second-placed Eastern are on 33, but even if the two teams finish equal on points, Kitchee take the title because of their record against their rivals. Kitchee lost 3-1 to Eastern in their first match, but won 4-0 in the return encounter. The aim of football is always to win titles. Yesterday's match kept fans on the edge of their seats at Tai Po Sports Ground with Kitchee seeking the title and the home side trying to avoid relegation. Kitchee marksman Juan Belencoso broke the deadlock in the 15th minute and Paulo Carreiro put them two up close to half-time by converting a rebound. Vincent Weijl helped Tai Po to close the gap with a free kick in the 73rd minute, before Carreiro's pass found Belencoso, who then slotted home in the 86th minute to give Kitchee a 3-1 lead. Tai Po refused to give up and two minutes later Weijl's blasted his second goal. Home fans were delighted in injury time when Tai Po were awarded a penalty. Weijl stepped up to complete his hat-trick and salvage a share of the points for his team. Tai Po stay bottom and will be relegated if another district side, Wong Tai Sin - a point ahead of them - beat YFCMD today. Tai Po coach Pau Ka-yiu said: "Our players may have been affected by nerves. They deserved a point from this match." Meanwhile, defender Cedomir Mijanovic scored the only goal to help I-Sky Yuen Long prevail 1-0 against South China.
