Hong Kong's Ng On-yee received a huge compliment from former world number one Ding Junhui of China despite losing yesterday's charity exhibition that raised HK$405,000 at the Igold and CGSE Charity Snooker Masters event.

The local star, who is the reigning women's world snooker champion, was more relaxed than in her previous game with male counterpart, Stuart Bingham in June.

She won the third frame in a best-of-five encounter that rattled the former world number one Ding who said: "If the match carried on, I would have lost. On-yee was playing better in the latter part of the match.

"She is still not used to playing against the men. If she can play in England, she will improve a lot quickly."

The exhibition, held at the South China Athletic Association, helped raised funds for four charities, namely the KELY Support Group, the Hong Kong Pain Foundation, the Eternity Love Foundation and the Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange Society Charity Fund.

Ding won 3-1 (125-7, 107-4, 36-88, 97-51), but was given a scare by the 24-year-old Hong Kong star, who credited her improved performance to a new pair of glasses and a more relaxed composure.
