Darts legend Phil 'The Power' Taylor says Hong Kong event hit the bullseye
The 16-time world champion says city is ready to host major tournament given how the weekend masters test event passed with flying colours
Only a fool would underestimate Phil Taylor. So ignore what you see when the television camera focuses on the man as he addresses the board and then starts to let those darts fly.
At the very moment of release, there's a slight raise to Taylor's eyebrows and his face opens briefly into the exact same look of wide wonder you'll see on the faces of amateur darts players the whole world over as they step up and they throw, and they simply hope for the best.
But that's where any such similarities end. Taylor knows exactly what he is doing, and exactly what this game is all about.
With an unprecedented 16 world championships to his name, it's that rarest of things in sport, an undisputed fact, that the 55-year-old is the greatest player the game has ever known and as though to prove that very point on Friday night, the first dart Taylor throws in competition in Hong Kong does exactly what he wants it to do, of course - it hits bullseye.
