Festus Baise scores last-gasp equaliser as Eastern share points with Kitchee

Eastern's Festus Baise scored a last-gasp equaliser as his team shared the points with defending champions Kitchee in the BOCG Life Hong Kong Premier League that ended 1-1 on Saturday.

Eastern's Festus Baise scored a last-gasp equaliser as his team shared the points with defending champions Kitchee in the BOCG Life Hong Kong Premier League that ended 1-1 on Saturday.

Juan Belencoso opened the scoring for Kitchee after just four minutes and looked to have three points in the bag until Festus headed home a Xu Deshuai cross four minutes into added time.

Referee Tong Kui-sum blew the final whistle at the restart as Eastern erupted into celebration.

Eastern stay on top of the table with seven points from three games, three points more than Kitchee, who have a game in hand, but more importantly, the draw would give them the confidence needed to contend the league championship and justify their HK$20 million budget.

"We won one point today, but it's a long journey towards the league championship," said Eastern coach Yeung Ching-kwong. "We fought until the very end and that was the difference between the teams. We prove that working hard until the end can have its rewards. It will boost our morale and confidence for the season," he said.

Baise, 35, said luck might have played a part in scoring the stoppage time equaliser.
