Hong Kong’s Wei Nan stunned badminton former world number one Lee Chong Wei in the Denmark Open on Thursday, beating the Malaysian in straight games in the men’s singles second round. Wei, a bronze medallist at last year’s Asian Games, put in a gutsy performance to win 21-18, 21-19 win in 45 minutes.

The tough draw of the Premier Superseries tournament presents Wei with another daunting test as he now faces Chen Long of China in the quarter-finals. The top-seeded mainlander cruised to a 21-11, 21-9 win over Dane Hans-Kristian Vittinghus.

Another Hong Kong team member Hu Yun, however, failed to reach the last eight despite putting up a hard fight against Lin Dan of China, losing 21-19, 10-21, 16-21.
