Kitchee extinguish Pegasus’ title hopes with two second-half goals
Champions move to third in the table after a double strike finish off their rivals at Mong Kok Stadium, while improving their chances of retaining the league championship

Two goals in the second half revitalised champions Kitchee’s soccer title hopes as they beat Pegasus 2-0 in the BOCG Life Premier League at Mong Kok Stadium on Saturday.
Kitchee have improved since their lacklustre start to the campaign and their latest win was hard on the heels of their defeat of arch-rivals South China last week.
“We badly needed this result to keep us in the title hunt,” said Brazilian forward Fernando Pedreira, who drew first blood midway through the second period before Alex Akande sealed victory for Kitchee with nine minutes left.
It’s a good effort for the team and we hope to continue playing well but there’s still a long way to go
“It’s a good effort for the team and we hope to continue playing well but there’s still a long way to go before the end of the season.”
Pegasus coach Lee Chi-kin admitted they were unlikely to challenge for the title after their latest defeat.
“It’s now very difficult for us,” he said. “We have conceded too many points.”
Forward Martins de Souza, who played for South China from 2011-14, was turning out for Pegasus, but the Brazilian, who scored 20 goals for the Caroliners during his three seasons with the Caroliners, hardly impressed in his team debut.
