Annie Au and Leo Au bow out of HKFC squash tournament

Siblings stumble at the semi-final stage of the championships after a good run of results

Hong Kong’s most successful squash siblings both bowed out of the HKFC invitational championships during their respective semi-final games last night.

Second-seeded Annie Au Wing-chi suffered her second straight defeat to India’s Joshna Chinappa in their semi-final at the Hong Kong Football Club.

Au lost in five matches (8-11, 11-9, 13-11, 7-11 and 11-9) in her semi-final yesterday, which is also the same stage as last year’s loss for the Hongkonger.

Annie Au is no match for her Indian opponent, Joshna Chinappa.

In the other women’s semi-final, top seed Joelle King beat Donna Urquhart by three matches to one, setting up a final at 3pm today with Chinappa.

Au’s brother Leo Au Chun-ming, who is also second seed, put up even less resistance, losing to Malaysia No 1 Nafiizwan Adnan 11-8, 11-8, 12-10 despite putting away some good shots in their men’s semi-final game.

In the men’s final today at 4pm, third seed Adnan faces fifth seed Paul Coll who beat qualifier Ivan Yuen by three matches to two in their semi-final.

Leo Au hits a shot in front of fans at the HKFC squash courts.
