Hong Kong’s “Wonder Kid” Rex Tso Sing-yu will announce his 20th professional bout on Monday, but it won’t be a world title fight.

A press conference will be held on Monday afternoon at DEF Boxing gym in Sheung Wan to announce details of the recently turned 29-year-old’s next fight.

It is understood the unbeaten fighter (19-0-0) will be fighting at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai in early October.

Tso will likely have to wait until early next year for a shot at Kohei Kono’s WBA super flyweight title. Kono is making a mandatory defence of his title against Panama’s Luis Concepcion on August 31 in Tokyo.

Kono would not have enough time to recover from his Tokyo fight and face Tso in October. The Japanese veteran is scheduled to fight in Tokyo again on December 31, but the “Wonder Kid” is unlikely to travel outside Hong Kong for a crack at his world title, preferring to fight in front of his home fans.

Meanwhile, Tso has become an ambassador of Asia’s Thumb Wrestling Contest, which is being hosted by the Link and is part of the H.A.N.D.S Up first anniversary, which runs until August 14.

As Asia’s first thumb wrestling contest, the event aims to encourage Hong Kong people to stop the addiction to mobile gadgets and lead a balanced life with a good dose of daily exercises. As the contest’s ambassador, Tso on Sunday joined the recruitment day to call on youngsters to join the contest.
