The youngster is one of Hong Kong’s main hopes in the badminton competition and though he is not one of the favourites for a medal, recent victories over China’s Lin Dan and Chen Long will give him confidence.
In the mixed doubles, Hong Kong’s Lee Chun-hei and Chau Hoi-wah were beaten 21-12, 19-21, 21-15 by Indonesia’s Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto.
The women’s doubles pair of Tse Yuen-suet and Poon Lok-kan lost 21-9, 21-11 to Nitya Maheswari and Greysia Polii.
The group is completed by Heather Olver and Lauren Smith, of Great Britain, and the Malaysia duo Vivian Hoo Kah Mu and Woon Khe Wei.
