Revenge: Hong Kong’s Ng On-yee beats women’s snooker world number one Reanne Evans to claim Paul Hunter Ladies Classic title
The world number two prevailed 4-1 in Germany to avenge the Ladies World Snooker Championship defeat earlier this year
Hong Kong’s Ng On-yee won the Paul Hunter Ladies Classic after beating world champion and current world number one Reanne Evans 4-1 in the final Germany on Sunday.
The world number two lost to England’s Evans in the final of the Ladies World Snooker Championship earlier this year, but gained revenge this time around to claim the €3,200 (HK$27,800) winners cheque.
“My coach, Lee Walker, played in the same venue before and gave me good advise about the table as it is a little bit faster and the pockets are a little bit narrow,” she said.
“In the semi-final I also had a break of 104 and that gave me a lot of confidence.”
Ng had earlier won her group with a 100% record following successive 3-0 wins over compatriot So Man-yan, Belarus’ Anastasia Tumilovich and Germany’s Diana Schuler.
She then edged out Russia’s Irina Gorbataya 4-3 in the last 16 before easing to a 4-0 win over Belgium’s Wendy Jans in the quarter-finals.
And another 4-0 win, this time over England’s world number three Maria Catalano, set-up the rematch with Evans.
In the men’s event, world champion and world number one Mark Selby beat fellow Englishman Tom Ford 4-2 in the final to claim the title for a thrid time.
