Hong Kong the big winner as city-bound Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber set up US Open semi-final clash

Next month’s Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open got a major boost on Tuesday when two of tennis’ hottest properties – Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki and German Angelique Kerber – set up a women’s singles semi-final clash at the US Open.
Both semi-finalists were confirmed this week as headline acts in next month’s Hong Kong Open, along with American Venus Williams, Australia’s Samantha Stosur and France’s Alize Cornet.
Wozniacki’s dramatic resurgence continued on Tuesday when the former world number one defeated a hobbling Anastasija Sevastova to reach a fourth US Open semi-final.
The two-time runner-up, ranked at a lowly 74 after an injury-hit campaign, eased to a 6-0, 6-2 win and will face second seed Kerber for a place in Saturday’s championship match.
Sevastova, playing in her first grand slam quarter-final, never recovered from falling and turning her right ankle in the second game of the opening set.
