Show me the money: Hong Kong’s Jason Hak claims biggest cheque of professional career at PGA China Tour Series event
The in-form 22-year-old claimed a share of second place at the NewTown KingRun Open after carding a final round four-under-par 68 in Chongqing
Hong Kong’s Jason Hak Shun-yat recorded the best result of his professional career on Sunday after a birdie on the final hole of the PGA China Tour Series’ NewTown KingRun Open secured a share of second place in Chongqing.
The in-form 22-year-old sealed a four-under-par 68 final round at KingRun Nanshan Golf Club to join China’s Chen Zihao and New Zealand’s Matthew Perry in a share for second at 15-under, six shots behind runaway wire-to-wire winner Gunn Charoenkul from Thailand.
Hak has now earned Ұ149,429 in five events this season and he sits in 15th place on the PGA China Tour Series Order of Merit.
Eight years after becoming the youngest player ever to make the cut on the European Tour at the 2008 UBS Hong Kong Open at Fanling, Hak began the final round four shots off the pace in fifth but struggled to make inroads into the leaderboard despite an eagle three at the eighth.
That helped Hak reach the turn in two-under-par after cancelling out two birdies with a pair of bogeys on the front nine.
The pattern continued on the way home with two birdies in four holes, although Hak was able to make the key final gain on the 18th which was bogeyed by playing partner Perry.
The PGA China Tour Series continues at next week’s Pingan Bank Open in Beijing.
In November, the circuit will make its first stop outside of mainland China at the Clearwater Bay Open in Hong Kong, which will be the penultimate event of the season.
