Sweet Caroline: Wozniacki beats defending champion Jelena Jankovic to secure Hong Kong Tennis Open final berth
The Dane prevails 6-3, 6-4 at Victoria Park on Saturday to set-up a meeting with Kristina Mladenovic on Sunday
Caroline Wozniacki ousted reigning Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open champion Jelena Jankovic 6-3, 6-4 in an exhibition of superb tennis to secure her place in the final on Sunday.
The Dane, who was a winner at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last month, put on a show of inspired tennis in front of a packed Centre Court at Victoria Park to oust 2015 champion Jankovic.
However, it was far from easy for Wozniacki against her fellow former world number one as the veteran Serbian produced another solid display with few errors, so often her trademark throughout her career.
But Jankovic simply found herself up against an opponent determined to make up for lost time after an injury-ravaged season.
Wozniacki will now be overwhelming favourite to secure a 25th career WTA title on Sunday when she goes up against world number 54 Kristina Mladenovic.
