Hong Kong’s Chan Yuen-ting has been nominated for the prestigious AFC women’s coach of the year award after her history-making feat with Eastern last season.

Chan is the first woman ever to coach a men’s team to a top-division championship after she won the league.

Nicknamed ‘Beef Ball’ by Cantonese media, she made headlines all round the world for her achievement. She was recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records and last month received a Bronze Bauhinia Star.

Her team are currently joint top of the league after six games of the new season.

She is up against Miyo Okamoto of Japan and Ri Un-suk of North Korea for the award, which will be handed out at a gala in Dubai on December 1.

The Hong Kong Football Association was also nominated for a ‘Developing’ award in recognition of its efforts to improve the local grassroots game.
