Lam’s last-gasp winner seals victory for Kitchee in AFC Champions League qualifier
Recent Senior Shield winners continue their good form as they edge Hanoi 3-2 in a qualifying round at Hong Kong Stadium to move to the next stage of the competition
Lam Ka-wai was the hero for Kitchee after the midfielder scored in the last minute of extra time as the Hong Kong club edged Hanoi 3-2 in a qualifying game of the AFC Champions League on Wednesday night.
Lam nodded home Fernando Pedreira’s freekick right at the death after Hanoi’s Gonzalo Marronkle made it all square at 2-2 in the 115th minute with his second goal of the night at Hong Kong Stadium
Hanoi took a surprise 1-0 lead after Marronkle found the net in the 73rd minute with the Argentine striker scoring with a low shot but Kitchee’s Alessandro Leonardo found the equaliser before the game went into extra-time in the one-off, knock-out qualifier.
Alexander Akande put Kitchee ahead 2-1 in the 109th minute before Maroonkle’s header levelled matters. But Lam found the winner with his last-gasp goal that sealed Kitchee’s victory and continued the recent Senior Shield winners’ excellent season as they move to the next stage of the competition.
